A Horse of a Different Color

Back in April we touched a bit on the Jaw’s Gear 2JZ-GTE powered Mustang and its participation in the WCHRA. Well this past weekend, Jeff and the fellas from Jaw’s went down to Bakersfield for the SCE Summer Nationals at Famoso Raceway. They took the car down with no prior testing on the new 3530lb “Modern Art Masterpiece Fupra” and actually ended up running two classes during qualifying to try and work out some of the gremlins. They started getting a handle on the car by the end of the night but still qualified last with a 9.630 at 145.93mph.

In the 1st round, they were paired with an 8.90 car, and pretty much went in thinking it was game over, but the other car red lit and moved them into round 2. In round 2 Jaw’s Gear was paired with another car working out some bugs and ended up coming around him on the top end for a 9.159 at 157.45mph win. This moved them into the finals where they would face their nemesis Gary Brandt who had been running consistent 8.7x passes all night. In the end, they staged the car, treed Brandt with a .046 RT but lifted out of the gate and were never able to chase him down. Even though they lost the round, they were still able to run a respectable 8.962 at 159.37mph.

Nice Job guys! You definitely have that thing going in the right direction. Keep up the good work.

Three is a Magic Number

After being inducted into the Mickey Thompson 3 Second Club in April after the Georgia Drags VI, Team Titan was looking to show the world that it wasn’t a fluke or isolated incident. After a little testing and tweaking, The Crew set out to Virginia Motorsports Park for the ADRL U.S .Drags III to continue the consistently low E.T.s and hopefully nail another 3 second pass or two.

On Friday’s qualifiers, Gary White and the Scion got to work quickly posting a solid 4.008@186.23mph and setting the pace for the rest of the competitors with the #1 qualifying position. In the second round of qualifying, Gary ran a slightly more conservative run and shut down early, yet still posted a respectable 4.053 Elapsed Time. During the third round The Scion had a breakage in the burn out box but the problem was quickly repaired in time for the final qualifying session, posting a career best 3.961@186.51mph, good enough for the 2nd qualifying position.

On Saturday’s first round of eliminations, Gary laid down another 3 second run, running a 3.999@185.51 mph to edge out competitor Dwayne Wolfe. In the second round the Titan Scion continued its consistency running a 4.003@186.38mph, good enough to advance past David Hance to the third round. In round three, Gary found himself up against the always competitive Jeff Naiser. Naiser threw down a quick 4.078, but it was Gary who advanced, posting another career best with a 3.956@187.05mph. In the fourth and final round Gary and the Titan Scion found themselves up against another member of the 3 second club, Todd Moyer. Moyer had edged out Gary and the Scion during the finals in Valdosta, so the tensions were high as Titan looked to strike back. Todd was looking good, posting a fast 4.030@194.55mph, but in the end it was Gary claiming the win with his best time yet, an impressive 3.952@186.74mph!

This was a great weekend for Titan and another consistent showing for The Team, posting the quickest E.T. every round of eliminations. The win this weekend has propelled Gary White to the #1 points position for the season. With the Scion running strong, Gary White at the wheel and 3’s to boot, look for Titan Motorsports to continue making noise in the upcoming ADRL races. We’ll see you at the races!

GReddy Chills Out Evo X

GReddy SST Oil Cooler Kit:

GReddy Performance Products has just released some much needed cooling solutions for the Evolution X, in the form of two new Circuit Spec Cooler Kits. The V-mounted SST (MR -twin clutch transmission) and Engine Oil Coolers increase the efficiency of the OEM coolers, by increasing the fluid capacity and cooling surface area, while controlling and improving air-flow to the cores. The factory SST transmissions found on Evolution X MR are known to trigger a “Safety” limp mode when the internal fluid hits 140C (284F,) which is not difficult to do during hard driving. The GReddy SST Cooler Kit uses an additional independent system with its own compact 160l/hr pump for superior cooling. It is easily installed by connecting to the existing fluid “Filler” and “Drain” ports on the transmission case. (NO machining required.) The V-mount arrangement is mounted in the front left inner fender under the factory unit (and to fit it, it also includes a new aluminum I/C outlet piping.) Another benefit is that vital areas, like the Radiator, are not covered. The kit also includes carefully designed Inlet and Splitter Ducting to evenly divide and control airflow through both the Greddy and OEM cores, while the Outlet Ducting helps increases flow. The V-mounted 12row (-08) GReddy core takes advantage of the airflow under the vehicle to draw out even more air through the core, (while the stock core has to fight with the air turbulence of the spinning wheel in the wheel well.) Also included are precise patterns for trimming of the under liner.

GReddy Curcuit Spec Engine Oil Cooler Kit:

Mounted in a symmetrical configuration as the SST Cooler, the GReddy Circuit Spec Engine Oil Cooler Kit mounts in the right inner fender under the factory core. Like Greddy’s other Circuit spec kits, this V-mounted 14row (-10) core uses Greddy’s signature inner fin technology for high efficiency. This greatly helps improve the durability of the engine oil and in turn the life of the engine. The kit adapts to the factory cooler and routes the oil in series, for a simple install. The kit also features carefully crafted Inlet, Splitter, and Outlet Air Ducting to increase flow to and through both the GReddy and factory coolers. Light-weight Nylon-braided hose add to the upgrades on this kit; as does the necessary trimming patterns for a perfect fit.
