Titan Installs HKS Genesis Exhaust

November 19th, 2009 Comments off

Just recently we had the privilege of installing one of the new HKS Cat Back exhaust systems (Part#31021-KB001) in a brand new Hyundai Genesis 2.0L Turbo. The fit and finish of the HKS exhaust was perfect, installation was a breeze, and the sound was by far the best sounding exhaust system we have yet to hear in a Genesis turbo. HKS sells the axle back and the cat to axle back as 2 separate units if desired, however for this car the whole system chosen. With this new HKS exhaust installed, the performance gain was very noticeable, the looks where gracefully enhanced, and the sound much improved.

Festivals of Speed Miami 2009

November 18th, 2009 Comments off

Festivals of Speed held it’s first event this weekend in Miami, FL. We had the pleasure of displaying at their Orlando show last month, and were extended the same opportunity for their Miami show. The event benefited the Michael Fux Injured Officers Assistant Fund, a charity devoted to helping officers who have endured nearly fatal, debilitating injuries who are unable to work for an extended period of time. Michael Fux also displayed his wonderful collection of modern exotics, many of which have been custom ordered in unique color combinations.

The event was kicked off on Saturday with a Yacht hop at the Epic Hotel and Marina in downtown Miami. Guests were treated to cocktails and decadent deserts while exploring a handful of luxury yachts tied up next to a courtyard filled with exotic cars and motorcycles. This yacht hop kickoff was followed by a rooftop reception at the Viceroy Hotel, which features one of the largest infinity pools in Florida which seemed to flow off the edge of the 15th story of the building. The views from the pool deck were breathtaking and allowed guests an opportunity to meet and interact with other attendees while in an intimate setting.

Sundays marked the finale of the weekend with a great display of exotic cars in Miami’s beautiful Bay Front Park. The downtown location featured the Miami skyline as a backdrop in one direction, and the port of Miami in the other, providing for some great photo opportunities. In attendance were 3 Bugatti Veyrons (including a GrandSport), 2 Lamborghini LP670-4 SV’s, A Ferrari Enzo and FXX edition, as well as countless other priceless exotic cars, customs and classics.

New DEI Titanium T4 Turbo Heat Shield

November 18th, 2009 Comments off

DEI has just released their new Titanium T4 Turbo Shields. These are custom fit Titanium Turbo Shields, with LR Technology, that provide the ultimate means of reducing turbo lag while serving as a superior heat barrier – shielding and protecting engine components, hoods and painted surfaces and offers a very cool looking carbon fiber look.

Made from pulverized volcanic rock then strained into a fiber material, Titanium Turbo Shields can withstand direct heat up to 1800 F and 2500 F radiant heat. This means retaining more heat in the turbine and less damaging underhood heat. The result is a cooler air intake temperature and a boost in horsepower!

-Anchoring hooks are incorporated to secure the shield.
-Each Kit Includes: Turbo Shield, 2” x 15 ft roll of Titanium down pipe wrap, two 14” stainless steel zip ties & fastening wire .

Le Belle Macchine D ‘Italia 2009 at Daytona International Speedway

November 18th, 2009 Comments off

This past week was Le Belle Macchine D ‘Italia, an annual event that takes place at the famed Daytona International Speedway. Every year hundreds of exotic and Italian cars from all over the east coast travel to Daytona to stretch their cars legs on the speedways’ 3.56 mile sports car course. The event lasts 3 days and includes both a Ferrari Challenge club race, as well as a driver’s education for those drivers wanting to test their personal vehicles on the track with an instructor present to keep things safe. The event also has gathered the support of manufactures and dealerships that bring out their latest performance vehicles for customers to see in the flesh, as well as experience on the track.

Lamborghini brought out their latest wares in the LP670-4 SV and LP550-2 with famed test driver Valentino Balboni providing test rides for lucky potential customers. It was truly a sight to see Valentino using every bit of the LP670-4s capabilities as he drove the car to 10/10ths using every bit of the course on a white knuckle ride for passengers.

Bentley also brought out its latest Continental GT Super Sport, a high performance version of the CGT that is ready for the track with large ceramic brakes, a deleted rear seat, and of course more horsepower. This great car not only performs like no other Bentley produced, but looks the part as well with aggressive color combinations, carbon interior package, black wheels, and updated styling to let curious onlookers know this isn’t your everyday country club Bentley.

I would also like to take a moment to personally thank Jon Miller and Eric who allowed me to experience Daytona in the passenger seat of their Ferrari 360 Challenge car, it was truly a ride I’ll never forget. It was a pleasure to see so many great cars on track being driven how they were meant to be driven, instead of collecting dust in a collector’s warehouse. It’s not every weekend you see Ferrari race cars, F40s, Bugatti Veyrons and Lamborghinis all sharing one of the most famous race tracks in America. If you get the opportunity to attend the event next year I would highly recommend it, it’ll definitely get a mark on my calendar.

Titan Preps Supra for NSCRA

November 13th, 2009 Comments off

In preparation for the upcoming NSCRA event on Dec 6th, the crew at Titan Motorsports has been ripping apart the Copper Supra, to make sure it is running at the top of its game. Here are a few snaps of this week’s progress.

Nitrous Express has been supporting all of our racing programs since the very beginning; well today they surprised us with an overnight box full of goodies to update our nitrous systems. This would be the first time since we switch over to the 91mm setup that Brett has the opportunity to setup the nitrous kits as needed for this turbo/converter combination.

Also it seems our Strange Brakes were not letting the front wheel spin freely, so we are having them rebuilt. More of the little things that seem to be holding this car back for some time now are finally being addressed.

OUC – Reliable Plaza Tour

November 6th, 2009 Comments off

Everyone is trying to save money these days and if you can protect the bottom line while also doing something to help mother nature it’s a win-win. During construction on our new building we looked at implementing various “green” technologies. The main focus of our efforts was in reducing electricity usage thru more efficient lighting, heating and cooling. We implemented some of these energy saving strategies during construction; foam treatment for the walls to improve insulation, 38% more efficient air-conditioning system, motion sensors and timers on lights, low-wattage fluorescent lighting, tinted windows and LED lighting. Since moving in, we have installed programmable thermostats and implemented a recycling program to further reduce our carbon footprint, but there is always more than can be done.

We wanted to get some ideas on other things we could do to save energy and see as many of these “green” technologies as we could up close so we contacted our utility provider, OUC, and setup a tour of their new building downtown, Reliable Plaza, on West Anderson. It is the greenest building in downtown Orlando and one of the most energy and water efficient buildings in all of Central Florida. The building is designed to meet the Gold level of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED). There building features a variety of energy and water saving technologies, resulting in the building being 28% more energy efficient and using 40% less water than a building of the same size built to Orlando’s standard building codes.

What looks like a regular water feature is actually a 27,000 gallon cistern that stores rainwater and is used to irrigate the landscaping. The cistern collects water from runoff on the roof and around the property and filters it before storing it underground. To reduce usage further, all of the plants and trees are drought resistant and require less water.

While OUC only uses the run-off water for irrigation, they looked at ways to reduce water usage indoors. One way is by using dual-flush toilets throughout the building. This type of toilet is relatively new in the US and North America, but has been using in other parts of the world for a number of years. The toilet uses up to 67% less water than a conventional toilet by having 2 “modes” of operation. Pulling the handle up for liquid waste uses substantially less water than pressing the handle down for solid waste. This is fairly easy to implement in existing buildings and is something we are looking into.

One of the features of the OUC building we were most interested in seeing was the roof. Along with a great view of downtown Orlando and the surrounding area, we got a closer look at the 32 KW solar array. The solar panels not only generate “free” power, but also shade the roof, and along with the reflective white coating, the amount of heat absorbed and passed into the building is greatly reduced. The OUC building is over 110,000 square feet and this small solar array only supplies around 3-5% of the buildings total energy use. We are looked at installing a 25 KW array on our building to help offset some of our electrical use as well as adding a reflective coating to the roof.

We also got to see their solar heating unit. Water is pumped thru panels that absorb heat and allow the building to have hot water without the use of electricity. We happen to have a shower here in our shop, and something like this could help offset some energy usage from our hot-water heater.

Along with having special parking spots specifically for fuel efficient vehicles, OUC recently installed this solar powered charging station for plug-in hybrid vehicles. The sun-shade awning is actually a solar array that feeds electricity into 2 charging stations. OUC operates a small fleet of plug-in hybrids that can be charged with “free” power from the sun while they are parked.

With any new technology there are some growing pains. The first few floors are actually the parking garage. Other than the lobby, the office space doesn’t start until the 7th floor. The building uses a under-floor air conditioning system (UAS) that has the same components as a traditional central air system but supplies cold (or hot) air from registers in the floor and returns it via registers in the ceiling. This allows the HVAC system to keep air moving in the same direction and overall makes the system more efficient. The problem came into play because the roof of the parking garage is the ground floor of the office. The cold air passing thru the floor causes condensation to form on the concrete roof of the garage. The brown insulation you see is made out of recycled paper and was supposed to insulate the office but because of the condensation it has started to separate from the concrete and flake off. OUC is currently working with its engineers and the architects to figure out a solution.

One last feature of the building doesn’t improve efficiency or increase the buildings LEED rating but may help to inspire everyone that passes by to do what they can to conserve energy, water and other resources and keep Florida beautiful for future generations.
