Last week a few of the Titan employees made a pilgrimage to the ‘Texas Mile’, catching a late flight after work we arrived to Houston with a 3 hour drive to our hotel still ahead of us, but the journey is half the fun. We awoke Saturday morning and went downstairs grab breakfast, while there we saw Ryan Woon from Wide Open Throttle Motorsports, Chris Johnson from Performance Motorsport and Cody Phillips. We took the scenic route out to the airstrip where the event is held and saw a few small towns as well as some great back roads that would have been a lot of fun in a faster car (we rented a Dodge Charger).
This was the first ‘Texas Mile’ for everyone in our group, but not the first standing mile competition we had been to. A few months earlier several of us had attended the ‘Mile Marker 1’ event in Miami. The ‘Texas Mile’ was highly organized, and we were able to get signed in and out to the starting grid in just a few minutes. There were lots of trailers and it was still fairly early so we got a chance to see several of the cars with their skirts up being worked on. There was just about every kind of sports car you could imagine present at the event. There were Porsches, Corvettes, Vipers, Lamborghinis, Ferraris and many more. I was most surprised to see some of the old hot-rods that looked like they were land speed cars that would attend Bonneville or a similar event as well as the classic Detroit muscle cars complete with enormous engines.
When the cars began to run the mile, one by one they would leave the line and head off into the heat-waves coming off the track. There were quite a few displays setup around the track to post up the speeds the cars were achieving. Several bikes and cars went well over the “magic” 200mph barrier, an accomplishment in itself, but the fastest cars were hitting 240+ and one of the bikes hit 260+…I can only imagine what that would feel like in a car much less a motorcycle.
Overall the event was great, well organized, lots of fun for both the competitors and spectators, and they ordered up some excellent weather. If you ever have the chance to make it out to the ‘Texas Mile’, it’s a trip you won’t forget!
Shortly before the release of the Carbonetic Blade clutch by Across, Titan Motorsports was chosen to install and test one of their new Evo clutches. Our test vehicle was a lightly modified Evo 8 that was putting down 350 HP and 340 TQ.
The tech removing the exhaust…
Transmission being dropped…
Old clutch being removed…
Here is the ACT Evo lightweight flywheel that was compatible with the clutch kit…
…4 paddle clutch disc…
…and Across cover plate installed.
Installation went as planned and all the pieces fit without a hitch. The only thing that was not included with our test kit was the alignment tool. The feel of the clutch on the street was very civilized. It had a very OEM feel and held the power of our modified Evo test car very well. The owner of the car has been driving the car daily for a few weeks now and is enjoying the extra holding power combined with the easy engagement and streetability this clutch kit offers.
The TMS Stage 2 Transmission is a great performance upgrade for any street/strip Supra. Rated at 750-800 rear wheel horsepower, this transmission has been thoroughly tested both on and off the track on a daily driven street car. Proven to 9.44 @ 151.50 and tested beyond its rated 800rwhp capability, you can be assured of reliability with this transmission.
Included in the build is a full upgrade of your transmission, including a Billet Aluminum Forward Piston made out of 6061 Aluminum. In the upgrade Titan will go through the complete transmission and do an extensive upgrade including a modification of the valve body, all yielding a more reliable transmission that can handle a substantial amount of power. All major o-rings, gaskets, and seals are changed. In addition, Titan has taken it one step further then other transmissions on the market. We have built in a smooth yet firm shift into our transmissions. That “thump” you get with other autos is not a sign of power or a race transmission. With the TMS Trans, that “thump” is a thing of the past. Faster shifting is the goal, and the TMS Stage 2 Transmission provides just that, with the reliability you’ve come to expect from all TMS products.
This weekend Team Titan, with the XTF Scion and XPS Cobalt, made the trip out to Texas to run the Dragpalooza VI at Houston Raceway Park.
After a couple of good qualifying passes on Friday night, the weather rolled in Saturday just as Pro Extreme was tacking to the track to begin qualifying. The wind picked up, temperatures dropped, and the rain began to fall. The race had to be called off.
Later, American Drag Racing League (ADRL) President and CEO Kenny Nowling made the announcement to reschedule the race and the creation of a brand-new, double-header event in response to the rainout of the ADRL’s season-opener.
The ADRL and Team Titan will return July 23-24, to Houston Raceway Park (HRP), where Dragpalooza VI will be completed in its entirety that Friday, with an all-new, yet-to-be-named ADRL national event now scheduled for the same weekend.
Although the race was canceled, we did manage to get some good qualifying passes in. Check them out:

Our first annual Titan Motorsports Open house was a huge success. We wanted to take a moment thanks to all the great sponsors, customers and fans who came out to support our new location. It’s a pleasure being able to support great charities in Central Florida such as Just In Queso and the Boys Town of Central Florida, and we look forward to an even bigger Open House in 2011.
