This weekend at ADRL’s Dragstock V, Titan Motorsports became the first ADRL 10.5 car in the teens with a blistering 4.158 @ 172.67. After this amazing performance in pre-race testing, the team then went on to qualify #1 with a 4.184 @ 173.32 in Friday night’s qualifying session. After advancing to the Semi-finals with victories over Kenny Kneece and Rick Fleck, Titan’s day ended in the semi-finals with an uncharacteristic red-light by Gary White giving Darrin Hoyle the win. With a very consistent weekend of passes in the 20’s or quicker, Titan moved to 4th place in the ADRL Battle of the Belts. The season ending ADRL race takes place in Ennis, Texas on October 24-25. As with all ADRL races, we will be sending out free tickets to this event, email jons@titanmotorsports.com with your mailing address.
We recently began developing our line of Parts for the Porsche 996/997 Twin Turbo platforms. With years of experience building some of the fastest street and race Supras in the country, we decided to begin working the Porsche platform in hopes of building another series of ultimate street cars. The Porsche was a natural progression as it offers a lightweight well tuned chassis and factory twin-turbo charged power plant. We have owned our Yellow 996TT for over 3 years now, but decided to start with a car that was a bit rougher to push the envelope and build an all around monster turbo.
The first step was locating the right car, we searched across the country for the past 1-2 months searching for a good base car and eventually found one in Charlotte,NC for a fair price. We where heading to Rockingham last weekend for an ADRL race making the transaction even easier.
The car is a 01 996TT with 64,000 miles on the clock. We wanted a higher mileage car as we will be tearing it down to the tub eventually, and we wanted to have a car with a bit more mileage to truly test our kits. We plan on building the car in multiple stages, the first to develop our street parts on the car, and then eventually the car into a street/race car similar to our Supra. The street portion of the build will happen over the next few months and we will be updating the blog every step along the way with pictures and new product releases. Here in Florida we normally test and race in the winter when the weather cools down, and this season is looking to be the most fun yet with this new acquisition.
This weekend we traveled to Rockingham, NC for the ADRL race. One of the benefits of racing all over the country is the ability to visit other shops in the local area. Our wholesale department is one of our largest divisions, we supply many key components and parts to other tuners and often work to create custom solutions to parts problems for their lineup. This trip we decided to check out Underground Racing in Charlotte, NC about 80 miles away from Rockingham.
Underground Racing is known for producing the fastest street Vipers in the country and have recently begun producing twin turbo kits for the Ford GT and Lamborghinis. The quality of their work is impeccable and they run a great operation in Charlotte, NC. After seeing what they’ve done in the Viper market, I’m sure they are likely to succeed in the Exotic arena as well. We look forward to working with them on future projects.
I would also like to thank Kevin and Casey for allowing us to tour their shop and use a lift to PPI our 996TT project. We look forward to working with Underground on future projects and wish them much success.
